New Fire Station In Offing?
The figure of £22,000 as a loan for the new fire station at "Whakatane was mentioned at a farewell function to Dr F. J. Appleby, who is soon to retire, on Tuesday night. The sum was mentioned when the need for a new fire station for the town was stressed by several speakers.
Referring to the new station a member of the Whakatane Fire Board, Mr S. S. Shapley, said that land for the new station had already been purchased and an' architect had been instructed to draw up preliminary plans.
