Support For Chemist Shop At Kopeopeo Agreed By W.C.A.
A meeting of the committee of the Whakatane Citizens’ Association was held in the King Street Hall when the president, Mr L. Richards, presided over a full attendance of members. The president pointed out that of the inaugural meeting a committee of ten had been elected whereas the rules provided for only seven members. The last three nominees to the committee voluntarily agreed to stand down and it was proposed to amend the rules at the "first opportunity. The secretary was deputed to approach the Plunket Society informing them that if they proposed to secure more spacious rooms that the association would assist in raising the necessary finance.
A letter was received from a ratepayer protesting against the introduction of 4 he Country Library Service. A resolution pointing out that a big majority of the residents approved of tr>e scheme and supporting the Borough Council in its action was carried. A sub-committee consisting of Mr F. P. McCallion, Mrs W. L. Pithy and Mr G. Washer Jnr. was set up to report on the prospects of furthering the scheme to provide a Community^Centre for Whakatane. It was agreed to prepare a report on Earthquake Insurance for the information of citizens. It was resolved to support a proposal to provide a chemist’s shop in Kcpc-opeo.
