Recordings Of Local Talks Made For Broadcasting

Recorded talks on the history, development and future of the Whakatane district and Rangitaiki Plains will make interesting listening when they are broadcast from the Bay of Plenty and Auckland stations during the next month or two. Organised by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Young Farmers’ Clubs the recordings were taken by a portable recording -unit of the Auckland division of the National Broadcasting Service at Auckland last week.

Discussions were held on various subjects pertaining to the district and on the different types of farming pursuits, developed industries, sports- and the growth of some of the built-up areas. Many people who have been successful in various spheres in the district related experiences while talks were given on the local Maori history. The Maori land development was examined and recordings were taken of a party of Wainui Maoris. Recent immigrants to the district were interviewed.

The dates of broadcasts will be published in the Beacon.
