Larger Power Quota The Taneatua Progressive League is to request the electricity authorities for a larger power allocation for the district. Bay Fruit Stall Advice that the Bay of Plenty Sub-tropical fruits Association had obtained space for the establishment of a stall at the Christchurch Centennial Industries Fair in August, for the purpose of cLsp.aying •fruit for future South Island markets was given to members at the monthly meeting of the association. Taneatua Works The Whakatane County Council intends to spend £I7OO at Taneatua during the coming year. This was revealed at a meeting of the Taneatua Progressive League last week. The works will include the sealing of Station Road and the clearing of road sides. Taneatua State Housing Because of the acute housing situation in the district the Minister of Housing is to be asked to commence erecting Si ate rfousss at Taneatua. Waimana Rugby Although playing good football both the senior and junior Waimana Rugby teams lost to Opotiki teams last week end. In the junior game against Opotiki Rovers Waimana lost 16-12. In the senior match against the strong Opotiki Maori Players’ team Waimana were defeated 22-9.
New Red Cross Officer
A successor has been appointed as successor to Miss Iris Crooke, former Director General of New Zealand Red-Cross, Mrs A. W. Winstone, Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre delegate, said on her return to Wha-, katane from a Dominion Executive meeting last week. The new appointee is Mrs Hodgkinson, of the Nairobi British Red Cress, who is expected to arrive some time month. Maori Gathi^^^Hh nigs will centennial when 3000 visitors are expected to assemble from different parts of New Zealand. Plans also are feeing prepared for the sixth centennial of the landing of the first Maori canoes. The other events comprise the laying of the foundation stone of Hukarere College, and the New Zealand Maori Hockey Federation’s tournament.
