UNITED & WAIEAKA MEET TOMORROW

Teams in all grades in the Whakatane Rugby competitions are now beginning to sort themselves out on the ladder. Despite the apparent good lead of Paroa by two points over the second team, Wairaka, the senior competition is still far from decided and it would only need one loss for the leaders ‘ for the competition to be again undecided. Wairaka is only one point ahead of United and Poroporo with Ruatoki and Taneatua following in that order.

In their present rate of improvement Ruatoki is one team that may yet be a force to be reckoned with. Unfamiliarity with Rugby moves and lack of fitness has been their main draw back. But they are learning fast. Tomorrow *the main games ■at Whakatane will be the meeting of the old rivals United and Wairaka, and the junior leaders United and School. Third grade games are to start at noon, junior at 1.30 p.m., and senior at 3 p.m. During the afternoon progress scores of the first test at Dunedin will be posted on the score board. The draw:— Seniors: United v Wairaka on No. 1, referee, H. Craig; Taneatua v Poroporo on No. 2, J. Keepa; Ruatoki v Paroa at Taneatua, A. Mitchell. Juniors: United v School on No. 1, H. W. Chambers; Poroporo v Paroa on No. 2, T. De Lacey; Wairaka v Taneatua at Taneatua, M. Thatcher. Third grade: School B v Ruatoki at Taneatua, C. Whitu; School A v United on No. 1, G. Gartshore. TEAM FOR TOMORROW United seniors to play Wairaka: Hunt, Taylor, Rutherford, Malaquin, Callaghan, Haddon, Goodwin, McMillan, Woods, Dines, Ruffles, Butler (2), Green, Howat, Parkinson, Gardiner.
