Gave His Wife Away
By‘ a slip of the tongue the president of the Manawatu provincial executive of Federated Farmers, Mr H. J. McLeavey (Ohau), at the annual conference in Palmerston North “gave, his wife” to the organisation! Mr McLeavey was speak ing against a motion which sought to increase his honorarium from £3O to 50 guineas. He explained that because of his circumstances he was fortuitously able to devote a considerable amount of time to the affairs of the federation. “It does take a lot of my time, but I have no ties in this world other than my wife and I’m prepared to give that to the organisation,” he said. A voice: What! Your Wife? The meeting dissolved into laughter.
