Evening Power Cut To Be Shortened

Due to improved conditions in the electricity supply the daily 6.30 to 7.45 p.m. cut is to be decreased by quarter of an hour. This announcement was made this morning by the borough electrical engineer, Mr F. Lysaght, who said that the cut would now be from 6.30 to 7.30 every evening except Friday. There will still be no early cut on Friday. Last night the 10.30 to midnight cut was not made because of flood conditions in the Whakatane River. Pumps had to be kept in operation at the borough water works to keep the seepage down. This cut will be held as usual tonight.
