Thornton Women’s Institute Meets
An interesting report of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Council meeting was given by the club’s delegate, Mrs T. Mexted, to the monthly meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs Branch.
In the social hour that followed the meeting Mrs McQueen won a wall competition arranged by Mrs Gardiner.
Margaret Tooke danced the Irish Jig and Mrs McQueen demonstrated ' the making of celophane baskets. Presentations were made to Mesdames Gardiner and McQueen who are leaving the district. Mrs Branch expressed regret at losing such good members. Competition results: — Apple short cake, Mrs T. Mexted 1, Mrs Tooke 2; white shoulder pray, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Robb 2: white handkerchief, Mrs Checkley 1. Mrs Tooke 2; best flower, Mrs C. Smith 1, Mrs McDonald 2; best vegetable, Mrs Mexted 1, Mrs Tooke 2.
