The future of the archives system of the New Zealand Government will be discussed by a group of members at the annual conference of the New Zealand Libraries Association in Wellington from May 16 to 19. The Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, Sir David Smith, raised the archives question, and it has since been discussed at length in the newspapers. Two hundred delegates are expected at the conference, the first to be held in Wellington since 1940, Among the guest speakers will be Miss M. D. Tompkins, assistant dean of library science, Columbia University, New York, who is a Fulbright scholar.
