Eastern Bay Red Cross Centre Has Very Busy Year
With all centres combining in an annual appeal a sum of £176 was raised in the annual appeal last year the president, Mrs W. Sdllivan, stated in her report presented to the annual meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre of the Red Cross. Sewing had been’handed in regularly and about 600 garments, mostly new. were sent overseas. *
Mrs Sullivan said that a parttime Red Cross therapist was now being maintained at the ' Whakatane District Hospital and was doing very good work. '* The junior red cross had suffered -jsomewhat throughout the Ctentre because of Tthe lack of a district organiser. Circles at the Whakatane high and primary schools and Convent were doing excellent work, the president ‘said. Cases of food and clothing had been sent to an English school at Portsea.
Mrs Sullivan said that classes in first aid had been taken by the Convent Circle members and home nursing by the high school girls. In each case there had been full passes iin examinations.
