POSSESSED TWO UNREGISTERED FIREARMS
Charged with having two unregistered firearms in his possession and a quantity of ammunition Harold T. Stowell, cai'penter, Foroporo, was convicted and fined £2 costs 12s by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Senior-Sergeant Fuller said that accused was a returned soldier and had brought the firearms and ammunition back to New Zealand when he had returned from war service. When he landed he had not registered the firearms or declared them to the customs. He had made no attempt since to register them. Recently Stowell had been away from his home at Poroporo and during his absence one of the firearms had been stolen by a mart who was row serving a term of imprisonedment. After accused had discovered „ the loss he had voluntarily surrendered the other firearm and ammunition to the Crown.
