Whakatane To Play Apanui In Hurinui Apanui Shield Game
In their first game for the Te Hurinui Apanui Shield this season Whakatane has drawn to play Apanui at Te Kaha while Rangitaiki is to play Tauranga in the Rangitaiki Union. Galatea will play Rotorua at a place yet to be decided. These games were decided at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union. In the Shalfoon Shield series Whakatane will meet Apanui and Rangitaiki plays Te Puke. The full draws: —
Hurinui Apanui Shield: Tauranga v Rangitaiki (at Rangitaiki); Opotikf v Te Puke (Te Puke); Whakatane v Apanui (Te Kaha); and Galatea v Rotorua.
The order of the challenge after this is:—
Winnerj Tauranga - Rangitaiki, July 22; winner, Whakatane-Apa-nui, August 5; winner, Opotiki-Te Puke, August 19. All these matches to be against the holders at the time of playing. For the Shalfoon Shield, at present held by Opotiki, the draw is:— Whakatane v. Apanui; Rotorua v Tauranga at Rotorua; Te Puke v Rangitaiki at Rangitaiki. These games will all take place on July 22 and the order of challenge against Opotiki or the subsequent holders will be in the same order as the draw is set out.
