One In Four Australians Is A Government Employee
Statistics released recently show that one employee in four at the end of March last was a Government employee. Government employees are those on the payroll of. the Commonwealth and State Governments and semi-goveinmental and local government authorities.
At the end of March, 1,827,300 Were in private employment and 609,300 in Government employment.
Of Government employees, 174,200 worked for the Commonwealth, 373,000 for State Governments and semi-governmental authorities, and 61,500 worked for local government bodies. The increase of Government employees during March was 4,100, while the total number of people in employment rose by 19,900 to 2,436,600.
