SCHEME TO SEND YOUNG FARMERS TO AMERICA

Plans to exchange four young farmers annually with four young farmers from 'the United States were outlined by the chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, Mr W. Hale, in an address to a Bay of Plenty Ward Conference at Whakatane. The farmers, he said, would be chosen for knowledge of industry, improved dairying methods, ability to speak and general leadership qualities. The successful young men will be given free transport to America ,apd would be the responsibility of the United States Department of Agriculture during their six to eight months stay in that country. Mr Hale pointed out that the four young Americans would be the Dairy Board’s responsibility in New Zealand. He felt that the young farmers’, t’ubs would benefit very considerably from the contact with * the United States visitors.

“We are*hopeful that this ex change of outstanding young farmers will not only provide a great stimulus of interest to our young farmers’ club movement but will also provide the, industry with men who can take their part in the leadership of the industry in the years to come,” Mr Hale said. Full details of the scheme are now being worked out and' are to '.be made available as soon as they .are completed.
