Uncommon Bird In Awakeri Home

One of New Zealand’s more un~ common birds, the long-tailed shining cuckoo, not often seen in the Bay of Plenty, was found in a room at the home of Mr J. Sutton Awakeri, last week. About 18 inches long the bird was coloured a dark brown with darker markings across the back and wings.

The bird was first found perched f on a wardrobe but later collided with a mirror, which it apparently mistook for a window, and stunned itself. It was taken outside whera it soon recovered and flew off.
