STATE HOUSES ARE WANTED FOR DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS
For years the Board has made efforts to have State, houses erected near dairy factories for the use of workers and early this year strong representations were made to the new Minister of Works, the Hon. W. S. Goosman, and he promised that the building of State houses in rural areas would be treated as a matter of urgency, said Mr W. Hale, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, at a ward conference at Whakatane yesterday. However, Mr Hale continued, the minister was not prepared to say that the houses would definitely be made availble for dairy companies
until the Board had made a survey d the number of houses required, i- Of these houses companies would guarantee the rent of tenancy where they were reserved for them. The 'minister had agreed to this proposal. In reply to a questionnaire sent to companies Mr Hale said that about 642 houses were required.
