Rovers And Huimai Win Seven-A-Side Hockey Tournament
Twenty-two teams competed in the five-a-side hpckey tournament held at the St John Sports, Edgecumbe, on Saturday and games were fast and exciting. There were eight women’s teams and 14 men’s teams nominated and the results showing points gained were as follows:
Women: No. 1 Section: Rangers 6, Awakeri 4, Taneatua 1, Otakiri I; No. 2 Section: Huimai 6, Edgecumbe 4, Otakiri Stars 2, Otakiri Blues 0; Section winners, Huimai. Final: Huimai 2 defeated Edgecumbe Rangers 1. Men: Section No. 1: Whakatane A 7, Otakiri A 6, Rangers 4, Otakiri B 2, Whakatane C T; Section winners, Whakatane A. No. 2 Section: Riverslea 6, Otakiri Stars 4, Whakatane B 1, Awakeri B 1; Section winners, Riverslea. No. 3 Section: Rovers 8, Matata 6, Awakeri A 4, Edgecumbe 2, Blues 0; Section winners, Rovers.
Semi-final: Riverslea 1 defeated Whakatane A 0 after extra time was played. Final: Edgecumbe Rovers 1 defeated Riverslea 0 after extra time was played. j
