Beacon Closed Tomorrow
The office of the Bay of Plenty Beacon will be closed tomorrow, Anzac Day. All copy for advertisements to appear in Wednesday’s issue must be in the office by 4.30 p.m. today. News copy may be left in the letter box in the factory door.

Poppies Go Poppies sold briskly at Whakatane on Friday when the annual poppy day was held. Sellers covered the suburbs and the shopping and business area and most reported that their stocks soon disappeared. Averaging Farm Incomes
Inquiries into the possibility of averaging farm incomes over a period of years for taxation purposes are now being made,, Associate Minister of Finance, Mr C. M. Bowden, told Federated Farmers. He said such a scheme would get the full consideration of the Government.
Farmers Visit Australia
A party of 25 young farmers from the Auckland province have left by flying boat for Sydney on a month’s tour of New South Wales and Victoria. They will examine farming methods and local industries. The trip was arranged by the Auckland Council of Young Farmers’ Clubs. The party returns on May 18.
Dutch Bakers Coming Nine Dutch bakers from Indonesia are expected to arrive by air at the end of this month, and five or six of them will be allocated to Wellington bakehouses to help relieve the acute labour shortage. This was announced by the Secretary of Labour and Director of Employment, Mr H. L. Bockett.
Visitors To Rotorua On Thursday evening six members of the Whakatane Miniature Rifle Club travelled to Rotorua to the opening of the season there. Mrs J. Critchley shot very well, scoring 96.4, only .1 behind Rotorua’s top score for the night. The Whakatane Club opens its season or<. Wednesday.
Table Tennis Club Although the meeting was poorly attended a gathering at Whakatane last week decided to form the Whakatane Table Tennis Club and will open the season at the winter show building on May 3 at ~45 p.m. Already equipment has been ordered and is now being made at Rotorua. All interested players are invited to be present on the opening night. Territorial Air Force
The Air Board has announced that in future pilots and navigators selected for service in the territorial squadrons of the Royal New Zealand Air Force would be appointed to commissioned rank. This follows the recently-stated policy of commissioning aircrews in the regular Air Force on satisfactory completion of flying training.
Holiday Tomorrow AM shops and businesses will be closed tomorrow to observe Anzuc Day at Whakatane and in other centres in the district. Those businesses which do have to remain open will, in most cases, observe tcmorow as a normal Sunday. The Whakatane Post Office is to be closed except the exchange, which will carry on the continuous service. Other district post offices will observe Sunday hours. Schools will take a holiday tomorrow and resume on Wednesday morning.
