HUIMAI & POROPORO WIN MAORI TOURNEY
The Maori hockey tournament held by the Huimai Club at Te Teko on Sunday was an outstanding success. All Maori clubs in the Central Bay of Plenty Association took part and some evenly contested matches were witnessed by a large crowd. Poroporo A women’s team and Huimai game was the feature of the day. Both teams played fast and clean hockey but Huimai with well directed passing and fast penetrating forwards broke through the Poroporo defence to score the only goal of the match. Results:—
Women: Huimai 9 points, Poroporo A 7, Richmond 6, Paroa 4, Poroporo 84, Te Teko 0. Men: Poroporo 7, Richmond 5, Te Teko 3, Apanui 3, Huimai 2.
