Miniature Rifles
NEW SEASON OPENS NEXT v WEEK
With winter just round the corner, Whakatane rifle enthusiasts thoughts again centre on the Legion Miniature Rifle Club’s indoor range, at the Show Building. Here, once a fortnight, shooters of all ages gather, to spend an enjoyable evening. The season opens next week.
Previously, available only to members of the Legion of Frontiersmen the range was opened last year to the general public, and to judge by the growing number of members this was a very popular move.
All shoots are controlled by experienced riflemen, and the most rigid safety measures are enforced.
The club caters for both sexes, and last year, one 'woman member, in a team visiting Cambridge, brought back the Waikato Ladies’ Championship, and another young Woman was runner-up for the Waikato Junior Championship. The strength of this type of club lies in the young members coming on, and realising this, the Legion welcomes beginners, young or old, and is prepared to coach them in the safe and correct methods of rifle shooting.
WHAKATANE VISIT TO ROTORUA
Tomorrow evening six members of the Whakatane Legion Miniature Rifle Club are going to Rotorua to the opening of the new Minialure Rifle Club there. Although the local club’s season does not start until next Wednesday, those travelling to Rotorua have every hope of acquitting themselves creditably, and are looking forward to further inter-club competition.
