CLUB CLOSES SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Reference to the successful season* of the club, which won four Auckland provincial championships, was made by the president, Mr H. G. Cutler, at the closing day of the Whakatane Rowing Club on Saturday. It had been one of the best the club had yet experienced and rowing had improved out of sight, he added.
During the day trial fours were held and some close and exciting finishes were watched by a large crowd. The winning crew was D. Baker (str), G. Koea (3), K. Bower ing (2), T. Stewart (bow). The winning coxswain was P. Lynds.
GOLF SEASON OPENS
A large crowd attended the opening day of the • Whakatane Golf Club on Saturday, which was officially opened by the president, Mr B. S. Barry. He welcomed visitors and new members and referred to the fine work done by working bees of renovating and extending the clubhouse. Mixed Canadian foursomes were played during the day and in the evening a dance was held in the clubhouse.
