Successful Matata Garden Party Aids Whakatane St John
The Matata Women’s Institute which includes members-from Awakaponga and Pikowai, recently held a very successful garden party at the residence of Mrs Smith, in aid of the Whakatane St John Ambulance Association.
The weather was fine and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. Games and competitions were very popular, while a bring and buy stall did good business. Miss Monica Marr carried off the prize for getting six tennis balls in a bucket, quite a tricky business. The length of a bamboo, lift 91ins., was guessed by Mrs Tee. Mr Geoff Conn took the iced cake home for tea by successfully guessing its weight, 71bs 15ozs. The dressed fowl was won by Mrs Magil and the box of sweets by Mrs Heard. Mrs Warbrick won the clock golf. With the proceeds from the garden party and generous donations from residents, the sum of £l9 was collected.
