Hockey Team To Find Part Of Cost Of Australian Trip
Members of the New Zealand men’s hockey team to tour Australia this year will be required to pay their own air fare plus small personal expenses while in Australia. The return air fare is £SO Bs. They will also buy their blazers. The New Zealand Association will allow each player £lO, and will also outfit the team with jerseys, shorts and stockings. Travel and hotel expenses in Australia are the responsibility of the Australian association. The overall cost is estimated at £7O a player. The team will fly to Australia on June 22 and return on August 6.
The New Zealand association has expressed the hope that associations and clubs which have players in the team will assist financially.
Nominations for the team close on May 16, and the side will be announced on June 5. The annual North-South match will be played at Wanganui on June 3. Players nominated for the New / Zealand team, but not taking part in the inter-island match, will play in a trial match as a curtain-raiser.
The touring side will take part in the Australian inter-State tournament at Adelaide from July 24 to 29, with the test against Australia on July 29.
