Hospital Rates Are Expected To Rise

Maintenance costs of the hospital are very much more • than most people think and total much more than ratepayers are called on to pay the chairman, Mr J. Mullins, said at the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board yesterday. He pointed out that at the Whakatane hospital the Government was paying the greater amount of maintenance costs.

However, he warned, when the revaluation of land in the district was completed ratepayers would probably be called on to pay more hospital rates. Present indications are that there is going to be a substantial increase.
