Te Teko Red Cross Branch Has Keen & Active Year’s Work
The annual meeting of the Te ’Teko branch of the New Zealand Bed Cross Society revealed t!he branch to be keen and active. The Annual Flower Show was again successful, not only as a function but also as a source of revenue.
The branch has made substantial
donations during the year to the • Bed Cross Food for Britain Fund,
/ the Red Cross Disaster Belief Fund / and Trans-Jordan Belief. The president, Mrs L. B. Smith, expressed gratitude to the generous and unfailing support of the public. The election of officers resulted in the re-election of Mrs L. B.
Smith as president and Mrs J. B. / Thomas, secretary. Vice-presidents elected were Mesdames C. B. Balfour and T. Harty. These officers with Mesdames H. K. Pryor* Charlie and P. Woods were elected to the executive committee. j Mrs A. W. Winstone, Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre secretary, stressed the importance of Red •Cross in the international field. Red Cross was represented on the United Nations, and was entrusted with Trans-Jordan and refugee relief by "that body. The new 1949 Geneva Convention, recently signed by all signatory governments, layed down mew agreements for the care of prisoners of war and civilians in combatant areas. This convention was drafted by the League of Red Cross Societies at its conference in Sweden in 1948, to which the N.Z. Red Cross Society sent three delegates, /the speaker added.
