HOSPITAL USING OWN PLANT TO SAVE POWER
A suggestion that the present
acute power position might be assisted if the hospital’s own standby power plant could be brought into operation at certain periods
•each day was made by the chairman, Mr J. Mullins, .'at the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Board yesterday. Other members supported this proposal and it was left to the engineer and medical superintendent, Dr E. T. Dawson, to arrange the-‘matter. While it was agreed that power
■consumption would be jielped Dr 'Dawson pointed out that the times “the plant would be used would Jhave to be kcoe into ver • carefully as the machine could not supply power for stores and the Xray plant. However, he could not see any- reason why the suggestion could be adopted.
Mr Mullins- said he did not wish to disorganise the running of the hospital in any way at all but he felt that by using the plant the Board and hospital could make a considerable contribution to the ■ campaign to save power. He remarked that he had been -concerned for some time over the power situation, which seemed to be very acute. He felt that the Board was duty bound to do something’ to help and by using the hospital standby plant during the day some saving would be made. Mr J. A. Caulfield agreed but asked if such a scheme would not be too expensive.
The secretary, Mr F. Pri£le)aux, said that it would be no more. expensive than buying power from the borough department.
