WHAKATANE CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS DECIDED

The Championship Pairs were finalised at the Whakatane Bowling Club’s greens this week-end and produced bowls of a high standard. The winners were PSmoljan and L. Littlejohn, who defeated R. Spong and W. Smith in the final, 20 to 12. Both teams played exceptionally good bowls and during the game the heads were continually changing from one side to the other. Other results: —

OHOPE & TANEATUA OLD-

TIMERS CAN’T DECIDE

What was to have been the final meeting between the oldtimers of the Taneatua and Ohope Clubs at Taneatua on Thursday did not decide much and after the day’s play the teams were back where they started, each having won a game. It all started at a previous meeting at Ohope when at the end of play both teams were even. A return match was planned to decide the winners and when they met last week each team won a game.

The first was won by Tane.tua 22-20 and the second by Ohope 1915. Another final is planned.

TANEATUA FOUR WINS FORBES CUP

'Taneatua was successful in winning the Forbes Cup for the championship fours from Whakatane at Taneatua on Saturday between dubs from Opotiki, Taneatua and Whakatane. After some exciting play the final result ended with Taneatua/ Rixon, Goodhew, Torrie, Coe 17 beating Whakatane, Atkinson, Coates, Berg, Mclsaac 15 The champion of champion smgles for the Ferguson Cup v/f to I’. Hunt, Opotiki, who beat C. Good, Whakatane, 20-15.
