UNITED BEATS OPOTIKI REPRESENTATIVES

The uncommon incident of a club team defeating a representative association side occurred at Whakatane on Saturday when United defeated an Opotiki representative team by 25 runs on the first innings in a cricket match that produced somd good play. For United the batsmen were kept rather subdued in the first innings but the bowlers were able to do the same to Opotiki. W. Alexander claimed two wickets in succession in one over and at the end of the day his table stood at four for 13. However, Badeley gave a similar performance for Opotiki when he claimed six wickets for 27. Details:—•

United 88 (Badeley 6 for 27) and 8 for 117 declared (McKenzie 58 retired, Wyatt 43 retired) beat Opotiki .63 (Spring 7 for 30) and 9 for 95 at stumps (Warren 39; Alexand- • er 4 for 13).

SECOND WIN AT GALATEA

Playing their second match for the week-end at Galatea yesterday United had another good win when they defeated Gaiatea-Kaingaroa combined by 11 runs on the first innings. Details:— United 149 (D. Carling 44, N. Rigden 35; B. Wilson 4 for 35) heat Gaiatea-Kaingaroa 138 (C. Cartan 53; W. J. McKenzie 7 for 37).
