Otakiri Rugby Club Wants Third Grade Players Encouraged
A decision to concentrate upon a third grade team and to try and encourage the younger players in this grade was reached by the annual meeting of the Otakiri Rugby Football Club."Tt was felt that boys just leaving schbol and those of a lighter weight should be catered for as they were the players of the future.
A start is to be made to get boys of the district to start playing football in a third grade team.
After some discussion it was decided to enter three teams in the Rangitaiki Union’s competitions, one each in the senior, junior, and third grades. Several members spoke condemning the prevalance of rough play, which was attributed largely to the lack of control of play and failure of the sub-union to impose stricter penalties. The delegates were instructed to place the matter before the sub-union. Officrs elected:—
Patron, Mr A. E. Lambert; president, Mr A. Cliffe; vice-presi-dents, Messrs G. Whalley, P. Cobden, P. O’Sullivan, W. Mayo, J. Rqvell, F. Linsell, G. Steenson, J. Armstrong, R. Dunning, F. Goodfellow; secretary-treasurer, Mr A. Winters; club captain, Mr T. Mulligan; delegates to Union, Messrs O. Lord and F. Goodfellow; coaches, Messrs E. Lockyer (senior), O. Lord (junior), W. F. Goodfellow (third grade).
