Eastern Bay Of Plenty Federation Of W.l.’s Meeting
A meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation W.I. executive was held in the Borough Chambers, Whakatane, Mrs McCallion presiding'. She was elected as executive representative to attend the conference. Mrs Grey, Taneatua, reported that there was an enthusiastic response from Institutes to the dressmaking classes and it was hoped to commence classes in the- Whakatane area at the end of May. About the end of August the classes would commence in the Opotiki area. Because of lack of support it will not be possible to have a group trip this year.
Matters relating to the forthcoming Drama Festival were discussed and Mrs R. Withy, convener, reported that Miss M. McDonald, Wellington, had accepted an invitation to adjudicate. All institutes are asked to send in their best samples of hand work and arts and crafts tp provide the Federation an exhibit at the Dominion Conference and Mesdames V. Peck, K. Stewart and L. Grey were appointed to make the final selection of goods to be sent forward.
The following were appointed as Voluntary Organisers for 1950-51: Mesdames Withy, Senr., Withy, Jnr., and K. L. Caverhill (Matata), K. Stewart (Whakatane), C. P. Wylde (Waimana), K. Brown (Opotiki), and F. Gardner (Taneatua). Mrs Brown reported that she was hopeful, of forming a further Maori Institute in the near future.
