Dry Conditions In New Zealand Caused Drop In Production
Despite a- drop in production of ■creamery butter graded for export in February, caused by di’y conditions the Dominion figures for the seven months ended February 28, 1950, showed an increase of 8139 tons compared with the corresponding period of 1948-49, according to figures issued by the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture. Figures for cheese for the same seventh-month period showed an increase of 5377 tons. If the figures are converted into butterfat equivalent, there is an increase of about per cent, in butterfat graded for the seven months compared with the corresponding period of the preceding season.
The figures refer only to butter and cheese graded for export, and because of diversions which may take place from time to time they are not necessarily a true indication of production trends.
