FINAL OF COMPETITION TO BE DECIDED Competition cricket will more or less draw to a close at Whakatane this week-end with games scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday. Two first class matches have been arranged and followers of the sport are assured of some interesting cricket. On Sunday the final of the Association’s knockout competition will be decided at Whakatane between P. and T. and Edgecumbe, the two teams who have fought out some interesting duels during the season. Both have each won a competition so that Sunday’s meeting will provide some speculation until the final result. Tomorrow the strong United team will play a return match with the Opotiki representative side at Whakatane and the outcome of this has some interesting possibilities. At the first meeting Opotiki had a good win. Also tomorrow P. and T. are to meet a strong team from the Whakatane High School in an all-day match 6n the Domain. United has a full week-end’s cricket in front of them and on Sunday will meet a team from Gal-atea-Kaingaroa combined at Galatea. This will conclude the season for the club, which has been one of the most successful on record. P. & T. HAS WIN OVER TANEATUA A win by an innings and 28 runs was scored by P. and T. over Taneatua in the semi-final of the Whakatane Cricket Association’s knockout competition at Whakatane. There was some good cricket displayed in patches but P. and T. early showed their superiority. P. and T. 158 (J. Rivett 45, W. Rivett 32; Ross 2 for 41, Martin 2 for, 37, Bridges 2 for 12) defeated Taneatua 57 (McCready 26; Cleland 3 for 9, J. Rivett 2 for 13, Fitzsimmons 2 fof 4) and 79 (Ross 15; J. Henry 3 for 17).
