Taneatua Women’s Institute Reviews Successful Year
This year the time of the monthly meetings was. changed to the evening and this has proved a vast improvement the membership growing steadily throughout the year, according to the annual report of the Taneatua Women’s Institute. The circles have benefited from a corresponding increase in membership with the Glee Club especially having improved remarkably within the la'st year. Institute competitions too have benefited from the influx of new members, the report continues, and have been well patronised in particular, that for fruit and vegetables. Winners of competitions for the year Were:— j Horticultural, Mrs ' Butler 1, Mrs Bennett 2, Mrs Grey 3; arts and crafts, Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Torrie. 2, Mrs Gardner 3; cooking, Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Bennett 2, Mrs Torrie 3. Parcels for Britain Jiave been sent monthly and included a Christmas party parcel at Christmas. The many grateful replies received make this a worthwhile effort. The institute entered a shop window in the A. and P. Show this year and also had an entry in the Women’s Organisation cut flower section in which first prize was gained. Members helped to. provide lunch and assisted with the serving of tea. At the Drama Festival the institute was again successful in winning the Drama Cup and were second in the comedy section. One, of the players, Mrs K. Tebbutt, was awarded the best actress trophy.
