EDGECUMBE LIQUOR LICENSE
Sir, —I read with interest? the Whakatane Borough Council’s interest in the new license authorised for Whakatane. It is hoped that the Council will persue the matter further and I trust be succesful in obtaining the license and eventually an up to date hotel which will really cater for the people. What is being done about Edgecumbe. A license has been authorised for this township and it would be interesting to learn if the people are going to do anything about a Trust Controlled hotel. The profits from such an enterprise would be utilised for the benefit of the district and not for the benefit of a private individual. It is generally recognised that Trust controlled hotels are giving far better service to the public in the way of accommodation and not simply providing a beer shop. Of course something may still be done about this matter but so far it would appear that the people are in the dark.
It is to be hoped that responsible citizens in the Edgecumbe district will be alive to the position and take the necessary steps to procure for their township a Trust' Hotel. By putting back the profits into the district immense benefits will accrue.
Yours, etc., EDGECUMBE RESIDENT. Edgecumbe, March 20.
