BIG ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS AT CATTLE FAIR
A full yarding of good quality cattle, ‘the majority of which were in forward condition, were offered by Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. at their Autumn Cattle Fair held at Opotiki/ The offering comprised a good proportion of 2£t3J year old steers for which there wa? keen competition. A good representative attendance of buyers was present from the Waikato, Te Puke, Rotorua and Whakatane districts and, with sustained competition throughout, a total clearance was effected at prices very much in vendors’ favour. \
Top prices for 3£ year fat and forward bullocks was obtained for a pen of 22 well grown and good conditioned cattle sold on account of Mr J. B. Stansbury at £lB 10s. For a line of 33 well grown 2£ year old Hereford steers offered on account of Mr A. A. Campbell £ls 12s 6d was paid, and a pen of 3£ P.A. store bullocks offered on account of Mr Claude Shaw changed hands at £l6 Bd. Empty cows and heifers were very keenly competed for. A line of empty P.A. cows offered on account of Mr H. S. Holmes realising £l3 9s and well grown P.A. heifers on account of Mr A. J. Macrae realised ’£ll. Eighteen months steers and heifers sold particularly well, an offering of 27 good quality 18 months P.A. heifers yarded on account of Estate A. Reid, making top prices of £l2 2s 6d. Range of prices:— Heavy fat P.A. bullocks, to £22; medium fat P.A. bullocks, to £lB 10s; fat P.A. heifers, to £l7 10s; fat Jersey cross bullocks, £l6 to £l7 10s; fat Jersey cross cows, £l4 10s to £l7 ss; light P.A. cows, to £l3; H year Hereford and P.A. bullocks, £lB 7s 6d to £lB 10s; 3£ year Hereford and P.A. bullocks, £ls 7s 6d to £l6 8s; 2\ year Hereford and P.A. bullocks, £l4 to £ls 12s 6d; mixed and broken coloured steers, £ll to £ll 10s; 18 months Hereford steers, £7 15s to £8 4s; P.A. cows with calves at foot, £l2 10s to £l4 Is; empty P.A. and Hereford cows, £9 to £l3 9s; P.A. cows (aged) r.w. bulls, £lO to £ll ss; 1£ year P.A. heifers,, good, £ll to £l2 2s 6d; smaller sorts, £6 15s to £8 10s; Jersey steers, to £ll 17s; Jersey cows, heavy, £7 10s to £7 17s 6d; Jersey cows, medium, £6 18s to £7;.;Jersey cows, light, £5 to £6 2s; Jersey heifers, r.w.b., £lO.
