Sanitary Collector’s Contract To Be Terminated
Because of the numerous breaches of the contract the Whakatane Borough Council decided at the monthly meeting on Wednesday night to instruct its solicitor to terminate the agreement between the Council and the borough sanitary collector. This action was taken after a prolonged discussion during which a number of complaints were placed before the meeting?
For ' some time now the service has been unsatisfactory and the Council has received a large number of complaints from all over the borough. Fresh applications for the position are to be called after future terms and conditions have been considered by the finance committee.
Although the service might be expensive Cr R. T. Morpeth said he thought the public were entitled to it, whatever the cost. Referring to the letters Cr R. I. Buttimore said that these were not all the complaints being made by the public. Other councillors agreed and it was felt that some action would have to be taken.
