Thornton Women's Institute Elects New Officers

The annual meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Branch, - who was elected president unopposed. The new committee elected was: Mesdames J. Branch, Checkley, Tooke, Law, Robb, Sheat, C. Smith, Learning, Ferguson, B. Smith, T. Mexted. The annual report was read and adopted. Mrs Withy complimented the president and committee on the year’s work. Dressmaking classes are to begin shortly. Competition results:— Best flower, Mrs Ferguson 1, Mrs Law 2; best vegetable, Mrs Law 1, Mrs T. Mexted 2; egg cup posy, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Robb 2; cut lunch, Mrs Mexted 1, Mrs Robb 2; tray cloth, Mrs Robb 1. Annual competitions:— The points prize was won by Mrs Robb. Vest vegetable, Mrs Sheat 1, Mrs Robb 2, Mrs D. Branch 3; best flower, Mrs Robb 1, IVfrs O. Branch 2, Mrs Sheat 3; special competition, Mrs Robb 1, Mrs ,D. Branch 2, Mrs Mexted 3. Gardening circle yearly prize: Best flower, Mrs D. Branch 1, Mrs Arbuckle 2; best vegetable, Mrs Arbuckle 1, Mrs D. Branch 2.
