ONE WHAKATANE MAN ELECTED TO NEW COMMITTEE

With postal votes still to be > taken into account but unlike- - ly to affect the result, Mr J. A. Stewart proved to be the only successful Whakatane district candidate in the Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee election yesterday. He and Mr A. W. Clarke, Rotorua, Who topped the poll 'with 723 votes are new members of the committee. The three re-elected were Messrs O. H. Coleman and E. G. Guy, Rotorua, and F. Pile, Opotiki. Though all three of the other Whakatane candidates polled higher than Mr Stewart at Whakatane, Taneatua and Edgecumbe he was better supported at Rotorua and Opotiki. In the following detailed results the figures are from the Edgecumbe, Mamaku, Ngongotaha, Opotiki, Rotorua, Taneatua and Whakatane booths in that order, followed in each case by the candidate’s total.
