Te Teko Wins First Tennis Tourney For Otakiri Club’s Cup

In a tournament which produced some very fine tennis Te Teko won the handsome Silver Cup presented by the Otakiri Tennis Club for competition among primary schools of the district, in the first meeting held at the Otakiri School. Conditions were ideal and games were watched by a large crowd. In the final result Te Teko finished first with 95 points, then came Matata with 91, Otakiri 75, Edgecumbe 69, Thornton 51 and Awakeri 39. Five rounds were played by each school and beside the winning trophy several prizes were awarded to some of the younger players. The president of the Otakiri Club, Mr O. Lord, and Club captain, Mrs Peek, addressed the players, the latter presenting the trophy to the Te Teko captain. Mr Brown, Te Teko, and Mr E. F. J. Naumann, Matata, also spoke. Mr Naumann thanked the Club for their generous donation to encourage tennis in schools.
