Brown Rot Reducing Stone-Fruit
Any doubts that fruitgrowers in Hawke’s Bay are experiencing one of the worst seasons within memory | are sealed by a current invasion of their orchards by brown rot infection in stone-fruits, particularly peaches. Brown rot is more prevalent than for many years, and is playing havoc among both hailmarked and sound fruit.
From the consumers’ point of view this new setback means that Golden Queen peaches for bottling will be scarcer than ever, and certainly no cheaper.
