FINE DAY'S FUN AT PONY CLUB SPORTS
A fine day’s fun was?enjoyed at Matata on Saturday by all who attended the Thornton-Matata Pony Club open gymkhana. Naturally, children’s events held a big place in the programme, but the organisers included a good proportion of open classes which not only attracted good entries and added to the public interest, but gave the young Pony Club competitors a chance to study some of the district’s best horses and riders in action. Steer riding was a novelty event that appealed to the crowd. Side shows, notably Punch and Judy, had a good day, providing, with the national dancing and novelties, extra interest for those not strongly horse-minded. Financially, as in every other way, the gymkhana (this particular organisation’s first) was a thorough success. Results: —-
