Government Officials Give Hints To Women
From Government officials comes a leaflet headed: “For women only.” It. sets out- .to tell them the facts” of devaluation and what they should do to help. The leaflet, issued by the economic information unit of the Treasury and the Central Office of Information, gives eight do’s and dont’s. See that economies fall equally on all the family. Don’t shoulder them all yourself. If you don’t go out to work see that those who do get a good start to the day. Be interested in their jobs. This means a lot when it comes from you. If you go out to work, see whether you can’t help to produce more goods efficiently. ' Make home a good place to spend the evenings in—it’s surprising what going out costs the family budget. It’s patriotic as well as good housekeeping to refuse to buy anything that is dearer than it should be. . Repair things when possible instead of buying new. Women’s magazines and newspapers are always giving helpful instructions. If you can put a bit aside in saving, do so, even if it’s only sixpence a week—and don’t draw out your savings.
Take an interest. Women tend to leave the first pages of newspapers to their husbands and turn to fashions and fiction. But unless they know what is ' going on they cannot make their influence felt.
