First University Conference For N.Z.
Wairakei, near Taupo, will be the scene of the 1950 conference of the Association of Universities of the British Commonwealth. It will open on July 31 under the chairmanship of Professor I. A. Gordon, Victoria University College, New Zealand. About 20 delegates from Canada, Australia, South Africa, Great Britain, India and Pakistan will attend the conference, which will last for three days and discuss university problems in general. Delegates will later visit the four university centres of New Zealand before returning home on August 21. Last year’s conference was held at Halifax, Canada; this year’s is the first of its kind in this country.
