HIGHWAY BOARD DISPLEASES LOCAL COUNTY COUNCIL
Dissatisfaction with the time of only three-quarters of an hour allowed the Whakatane County Council to meet the Main Highways Board when the .Board visits the district next month was expressed at the monthly meeting of the 'Council yesterday. So displeased was the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, and other councillors that it was decided to write pointing out the Council’s general dissatisfaction with the Board’s present policy in .the County and suggesting that
there be more frequent meetings .between local bodijps and the j3oard. The Board should be told what the Couneil thought of the way " 'they were running the country, when it was only staying 45 minutes at Whakatane, Mr Burnett declared. The County had been badly neglected, especially road sealing work. The summer was almost over and no new sealing work had been started yet, he added., Cr L. W. Luxton said that the Council should point out the poor patching work now being done on sealed roads. He alleged that the labour was very inefficient. Referring to the apparent lack of road work in the County Cr R. F. Wardlaw remarked of the Board : They can’t do any., less disservice than 'they have already done. Mr Burnett said he considered the Board should arrange more meetings with local bodies.
