DUSTY ROADS

Sir, —The road from Edgecumbe to the Otakiri turn off past Geo. Syme and Co’s mill is in a very dusty condition in , fine weather. With the new State housing scheme and the increase ip sawmill housing at Edgecumbe there are now many users of this highway as a footpath. However to be caught on this road when a truck or car goes past at high speed renders one almost blind with dust. Large numbers of women folk and children use this highway now to do their shopping in Edgecumbe, and to say the least it is a positive disgrace. In winter time the reverse is the case, large pools of water and one is bespattered with mud, when a car goes past. Surely with the large increase in people living in this area something should be done about tar sealing the road from the township as far as the turn off mentioned above, and also providing a proper footpath. The apology for a footpath now provided is simply a path for horsemen and bicycle riders. Trusting that action will be taken to have this work put in hand. Yours etc.,-. EDGECUMBE RESIDENT. Edgecumbe, February 27.
