House Destroyed at Waiohou

A five-roomed house owned by the East Coast Rabbit Board was completely destroyed by fire at Waiohou on Sunday. It was occupied by an employee of the Board and his family but they managed to escape from the building. The house was previously owned- by the Whakatane County Council and had just been sold to the Board.

A little salt sprinkled over the stove before beginning to fry will prevent splashes of fat from marking it.

Instead of using corks in the holes at the bottom of salt and pepper shakers, use pieces of adhesive tape, so that the shakers will stand quite flat on the table.

Instead of stewing fruit, bake it. When the rest of the meal is being cooked in the oven, put the fruit in a casserole, cover lightly and leave for forty minutes without raising the lid.
