Increase In Butter & Cheese Produce Graded For Export
Creamery butter graded for export in New Zealand for January of this year, showed an increase of 395 tons compared with the corresponding month the previous year, acording to figures issued by the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture. Figures for cheese for January, showed an increase of 1729 tons over those for the same period the previous year. Creamery butter graded for export for the six months ended January 31, 1950, totalled 109,578 tons compared with 99,191 tons for the same period in 1949. The figures for cheese for the same six-month period showed an increase of 5262 tons.
If the figures are converted into butterfat equivalent, there fs an increase of about 10£ per cent, in butterfat graded for the six months compared with the corresponding period of the preceding season. The figures refer only to butter and cheese graded for export, and because of diversions which may take place from time to time they are not necessarily a true indication of production trends.
