Few Register For Military Training

There are still a number of 18-year-old youths in the Bay of Plenty who have not registered for military training, according to the Department of Labour. So far only 39 have come forward and this includes only five Maoris. Under the Compulsory Military Training Act it is necessary for all youths who turned 18 on November 1, 1949, and those who have turned 18 since to register. Others are required to register within 14 days of their birthday.
