Whakatane Does Well In Te Puke A. & P. Show Events
Whakatane and district competitors were well in the money at the ‘Te Puke A. and P. Show on Saturday. Results in which they figured:— Horse events: A. Stewart first best * gentleman rider and maiden jump; S. Eivers, first champion pony and pony jump; K. Sisam first open jump, second wire jump: S. Langdon third wire jump: D. Reid, third best pony, second pony bending; D. Reid and J. Moore, second dual jump- J. Moore first best cob and open bending, second pony jump consolation.
Dairy cattle: H. E. Missen first champion Friesian bull, 3 year bull, 2 year heifer (calved), 2nd, 1 year heifer, 3rd group (bull and 3 females). Jerseys: F. R. Looney. First Bay of Plenty Jersey Oaks (type and production): F. R. Looney 1, N. Reid 2, H. Hill 4 and 5, S. G. Ker 6. Other awards: F. R. Looney, third cow 4 years and over, second pedigree 2 year heifer, 3rd bull 3 years and over, 3rd breeders’ group, fourth yearling heifer, third pair yearling heifers, 2nd and 3rd best dairy cow of show (Roberts Cup) Boon and fourth cow 4 and over, first 2 year heifer, 2nd 2 year heifer, 2nd 2 females by same sire; 4th breeders’ group, 4th best dairy cow; N. Reid 3rd 3 year heifer. 2nd yearling Jersey bull. v Pigs: S. Campbell, Ist best bacon■er, 2nd Berkshire sow with litter, sow under 8 months and boar under 8 months.
Fishermen spend more money on equipment than do any other group of sportsmen in the United States. The factory value of fishing tackle sold in one year was more than one-quarter the total value of all sporting goods produced.
