MAN FOUND DEAD AT ONEPU: FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED
Frederick Stanley Hodson, aged 59, married, laboratory worker employed by the Ran-
gitaiki Plains Dairy Co. at Edgecumbe, was found dead in
scrub at the side of Grieve’s Road, Onepu, about 8 last night. Police suspect he was murdered.
Mr J. Crowley, Police Inspector from Gisborne, came over right away, and is in charge of the investigations. He told the Beacon this morning that Hodson had been reported mising from his home since 8 Monday morning. Police inquirirs traced him as far as Onepu, and a search where his car was reported to have been seen last revealed the body in the scrub by the roadside and partly concealed by sand. Constables R. F. Julian and D. Jones, accompanied by a local resident, made the grim discovery.
The car is mjssing, and police want to hear from anyone who has seen it.
It is a 12 h.p. Vauxhall, 1947 model, painted sSxe blue, registered number 52329. So far as the actual cause of death was concerned, Mr Crowley was a bit reticent. At that time he had not had a chance to get a pathological report and was not prepared to give a definite opinion.
